About Course

Light is essential to all living things. For humans, it regulates our internal clock (aka circadian rhythm) and can improve mood during winter months. Light, or Lighting when talking about artificial light with or without integrated daylight harvesting plays a key role in well-being and productivity in any environment and can influence buying habits in retail applications, making it essential when designing a room, a building or a retail store. Often not seriously looked at until the end of the budgeting process or construction timeline, lighting (or the absence of lighting to offer better contrast) is quintessential in revealing architecture and creating an ambiance. This presentation aims to stress the importance of lighting in creating a mood targeted at well-being while boosting productivity and sales in business environments. The presenter will provide an overview on how lighting, when done well, can increase contrast and comfort, while reducing glare and fatigue.

  • Learning Objective 1: Upon completion, the participant will have an understanding of the purpose of a properly designed lighting system and its effects on mood, stress, productivity and well-being.
  • Learning Objective 2: Upon completion, the participant will have a greater understanding of the key role of lighting in transforming the architecture of a room or building into a sensorial experience for the health and well-being of each occupant.
  • Learning Objective 3: Upon completion, the participant will have a greater understanding of the differences between simply lighting a space or, designing and illuminating a room to create an ambiance for cater to our human senses and feeling of well-being.
  • Learning Objective 4: Upon completion, the participant will be armed as an advocate to influence design and offer insights on why a well-crafted lighting system is essential for the health and well-being of the occupants. A tailored lighting system to maximize all our human senses have to offer.
